ny:
Another case that incentivizes APPLE to POSSESS as many patents as it can for the present and the future ! The fewer patents in its arsenal only increases the certainty of protracted and costly litigation . Thereby, also increasing the values of the patents it does not possess and may desire to acquire .
Good for our side !

Thanks for the input Marriott. I agree.
But what especially got to me though is the line I'd mentioned.
<< Apple said that if the court orders it to pay a rate higher than $1 per device, it would pursue all possible appeals. >>
Something which clearly harkens to the unspoken stance they've held in all that's pertained to Kodak:
Appeal, Object, Appeal and set up whatever obstacles they must until they get their way.

'But if the Court were to set, for example, the rate Motorola is seeking, that would amount to billions of dollars per year. That is orders of magnitude more than Apple is paying for even substantially larger standards-essential patent portfolios.'
So typical of the Vampire. I expect that Apple will appeal should Motorola not comply. It is their MO.
Apple spends much less on their R&D than any other comparable tech company. Their technology is largely acquired thru strategic licensing, acquisitions, and good old fashion thievery. I call Apple the Vampire because its developed IP ( other than that which is design-related) shadows conspicuously that of its competition. What it wants it either 'borrows', steals, or strong arms via litigation.
