"Fuji To Cease Motion Picture Film Manufacturing By End Of The Year?
EXCLUSIVE: Fujifilm won a Sci-Tech Oscar this year for its contribution to motion pictures, but Deadline hears the division of the company that produces motion picture film is set to close by December 31. A Fuji spokesperson said they were unauthorized to answer any questions. However, industry sources say they are aware of the plans. “They clearly are going around telling people,” one says. Fuji film is used for about 20% of studio business with Kodak repping the other 80%, I’m told. While there remain stalwarts, fewer movies are shot on film today and eventually, a source opines, no one will be manufacturing it. However, film is still considered the best medium for archival preservation given the unknowns surrrounding the future of digital archives. In that regard, there’s a bigger general question facing the industry as it tries to work out what will be the best long-term solution."

Psalm, GREAT FIND!!!
This means that Kodak will have a DEFACTO monopoly in motion picture Film. Which means that Kodak will probably also end up with a monopoly on using FILM as the most trusted MEDIUM for LONG term ARCHIVAL of motion pictures, whether they were captured with digital or Film!!
Even though most theaters in the US will stop using film, there will be quite a few ART house theaters ALL over the world that will continue to use film.
FURTHERMORE, Kodak's royalties from the NEW LASER based technology that it licensed to IMAX will start in 2013, and will GROW EVERY YEAR for DECADES!!!!

Virtually ALL of Kodak's licensing deals run for ten years.
But, Kodak was CREATING patents as of a few months BEFORE the deal....
So, many of the patents will run for the next 19 years....
So, I guess I should have said that the royalties will grow for the next 18 years.
